Wigs

There are so many wonderful perks with wigs then with regular hair! I'm personally confused why more people don't where wigs if they love to switch with different hairstyles anytime they want to, or if they want to instantly have beautiful model hair. They are not just for people suffering from hair loss, although it helps them so much, men and women suffering from baldness. Despite myths, women actually have problems with hairloss as much as men do. Wigs are really wonderful because you can be a blond one day if you want to and be a brunette the next day or even a pink!

However if you want to get a good quality wig that really looks like real hair be prepared to spend a lot. Like more than a hundred dollars. The average is about two hundred but if you look around you can find a good one for less, usually depending on the length and the quality. This means they need to be properly taken care of once you have one. To look after wigs, you need a wig stand, quality wig shampoo and conditioner, some wig hair spray, and the proper brushes and combs. You can find those usually where you buy wigs.

Lets start with the basics. After wearing a wig for anything longer than an hour, it should be placed on a wig stand to air and dry, preferably overnight. If you leave it in a bag or suitcase, the perspiration could cause your wig to mildew and be a breeding ground for bacteria.

If you use perfume as the final touch before going out, be careful not to get it on your wig. It can quickly destroy the hair fibbers and cause them to harden.

Now for washing the wig. Before you washing it, gently comb it to get rid of any tangles. Mix the shampoo in a basin following the wig shampoo's instructions. Usually a capful in a basin of cold water but, never ever, use Hot water because that will destroy you wig! Swish your wig around in the shampoo a couple of times and than let it sit for a few minutes and then swish it around again. Then rinse your wig thoroughly in cold water make sure that you rinse out all the soap and the water runs clear.

Now lets condition the wig. Depending on which type of conditioner if its creme rinse, then you need to pour some into the wig and work it in very well. After you have done this, rinse again in cold water. If you opted for the spray and leave in conditioner, which is what I prefer, after washing, shake out any excess water and then spray the entire wig with conditioner and work it in well. With your wig now conditioned, lets dry it. Place a towel on a counter or some other flat surface and place your wire wig frame or stand on it. Position your wig on the stand and then allow it to drip dry. Usually over night.

Never use a hair blower please, remember to a wig, heat = a big no no. Any extreme heat will ruin your wig. After your wig is completely dry, comes the fun part. Styling it. Take your wig off the wire stand and using your comb/pick, go through your wig and remove all the tangles and little knots. If it's a tight knot or tangle, be sure to hold the strands the base of the wig, and work them out. Avoid yanking on the tangles as you will pull out the strands. Once the tangles have been removed you should now be able to brush and comb out your wig so that it slowly begins to fall back into the original style. This is where your Styrofoam wig stand comes in handy. A long, curly wig can be a real challenge as it is very time consuming to comb out virtually every single curl. If you bought a good wig, by now you should have restored it back to it's original style.

There is no need to cover your entire wig with spray to hold it in place. However I usually apply a small amount of spray on my bangs to keep them in place. One thing to remember, never use the same shampoo and conditioner that you would use on your own hair. The waxes that are in our shampoo and conditioner will quickly foul the strands of a wig and make it look horrible.

If you think caring for your wig is too challenging or if you simply don't have enough time, most hairdressers will do wash and style it for you for about fifty dollars but it may take four or five days before you get it back they give it back to you. Thats why its good to have several wigs!

To get all your hair under a wig, I know this sometimes can be like trying to stop up a waterfall with your hands, comb it out so its smooth then hair nets and wig caps are usually all that is needed. Try to smooth out any lumps so it all looks even. It can be puffy, that way it will give your wig more volume. You can also put your hair up with clips. French braids too... 2 or 4. Start at the top, but not too close to the edge. Braid what's left. You can do pin curls as well, have them all over your head. Secure them with two bobby pin's in an "X". Use a wig cap to keep poking at a minimal.

If you want a wig with the bangs going up from the root and visibly showing, the best type of wig to get is one with hair lace on the front.

To get the front of a wig to look natural (without hair lace) Put the wig on as you usually do. Take a ratt-tail comb (or anything long and pointing including a pencil) and pull out a bit of hair across the front about 3 inches of of your forehead. You are not pulling out a lot, just a bit. Be sure you wig is back on straight and then comb this hair back into the wig over the bad seam. This gets rid of the seam and uses your natural hair line.

Hair Extensions

The key to getting girly, beautiful flowy, long hair without wigs is to use hair extensions. They can lengthen your hair, cover up split ends and volumize your hair. They are even easier to curl than curling your own hair or you can use them if you don't want to risk the chance of damaging your own hair with hot curlers.

These are what I personally love to use. It's seriously life changing how much better they make your hair look. If you're a transgender girl with broad shoulders these will help make them look smaller. I prefer the clip-in extensions because they are the easiest to use. They just snap in your hair.

You can get beautiful long human hair, and with human hair you can do anything to it that you would with your regular hair, like use a curling iron, rollers, hair spray, comb, and you can even bleach, and color them like you can with your own hair.
