For example, instead of paying $50 for something like this:
I instead went to my local Vinnies (an Australian charity-run second hand shop) and picked up the uniforms from some of my local all-girl catholic schools. one of which looks like this:
The others are even more delightful - a navy pinafore over a white blouse and tie as well as a burgundy plaid dress which buttons up the front and has a wide white peterpan collar.
Similarly, instead of paying $200 for a fancy maid's uniform like this:
I instead payed $20-something for a dress that looks a lot like this:
The same thing goes for nurse outfits - I've picked up a tight fitting, white zip-up-the-front nurse dress from Vinnies for something like $5. The best part about this one is that it actually looks a bit like a fetish outfit anyway
Provided you only buy one outfit at a time and go to different stores each time you shouldn't get too embarrased. If you get confronted about it just say you're going to a costume party (this excuse has worked twice for me, every other time I've not even been commented on).
I don't know about everyone else, but in some of these instances I actually prefer the non-fetish outfits - this in addition to the fact that I paid less and was able to get good fitting costumes without risking mis-sizing by ordering over the internet. There's the added excitement of wearing outfits worn by other girls and women before me. Also, there's the fact that with appropriate hair and makeup I can wear most of these outfits outside without looking so obviously like a cross-dresser (of course this is within reason - It's not very convincing to see a 5 foot 10 school girl on Sydney's main night-club strip at 2am, but I'm sure you get my point).
Of course adult baby stuff is much harder to find authentic outfits that fit, but if you look hard enough and have a small enough frame you can have some luck - I've found one white, linen dress with a very large lace collar which was nothing but AB, but that's been it.
Granted, I have my moods and sometimes just must have myself bound in my Yellow PVC high-necked lockable maid's outfit, but I've found that I've saved hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars by moderating my extravagant purchases with plenty of straight-laced ones. I've also been able to add a little extra realism to some of my role-playing.
It's also fun! I love scouring bargain bins and racks in search for that perfect outfit and if you've got a sympathetic female friend who also like bargain hunting you can make it a fun day out together.
So how about everyone else - do you agree? Or do you just itch for that PVC, leather or latex feel and find that plain old polyester or cotton just can't do it for you?
