Random question, but is quinceanera essentially a coming of age celebration in Latin-American culture? If it is, I assume it's specific to women?

Also, THANKS for sharing these. I don't think there's a dress here I don't want!

You are correct DiaperedErica, Quinceanos is the 15th birthday of a young woman and Quinceanera is a young woman on her 15th birthday. In the spring in San Antonio, they have a weekend celebration called Fiesta. The major parade features floats carrying young women wearing wonderfully elaborate quinceanera gowns. Because they have to stand for long periods, the girls typically wear comfortable sneaker style shoes under their gowns. It has become tradition for the girls to lift their skirts to show off their scruffy old sneakers. I would barely notice the footwear because I could never divert my eyes from the wonderfully feminine gowns.

Thank you, dear, for sharing those gowns! You're a girl after my own heart. Whenever I see a girl in a Quinceanera gown -- or a prom gown or a bridesmaid's gown -- I'm *so* jealous! I just wish I could be her! Actually Quince dresses are my favorite. They're extremely feminine and frilly, and somewhat sexy, but not over-the-top do-me-now slutty like so many recent prom gowns.

Sneakers with those gowns? How dreadful! I'd just love to be a girl on one of those floats. I'd wear heels the whole time! Hey, I'd insist they lock the heels on my feet. So I couldn't chicken out, of course. *giggle*

These two are my favs. I adore that matching purse! Can't you imagine spending an entire day in one of those gowns, with all your friends admiring you? Feeling that soft, silky material against your skin? Hearing your skirt rustle as you make the slightest movement? Having your skirt billow up when you sit down? Feeling your corset -- I assume you'd have to wear a corset with those gowns -- clutching you with its delicate but relentless embrace?

Now all I need are gloves and a tiara!
