When he was 11 he was dressing in the bathroom, trying on a dress and some make-up, just experimenting with a new look. He thought he was alone in the house, when suddenly his dad knocked at the bathroom door demanding to get in for need of the toilet. Sam was shocked, he had never been in this situation before, dressed in full make-up and dressed he couldn't change in time, and his dad was getting impatient. "Sam, come on open the door, i really need to go now", he said. "Just a minute"! Sam responded in a panic. He looked around frantically for something he could use to hide himself, even thinking he could just hide in the cupboard till his dad went away. His dad was becoming more and more impatient, knocking on the door; "Sam, please hurry up, i really need to go"! Sam really didn't want to make his dad angry with him. Knowing there was nothing he could do but face his own fate he proceeded to open the door.
His dad proceeded to enter the room, but then noticed his son dressed in a floral dress and heel, with full make up; mascara, foundation, black eyeliner, a pinky blush and a pink lipstick. The look that his dad was giving him cut straight through Sam. A look of shame almost, Like; "what the hell are you doing dressed like that"? "You look ridiculous". His dad didn't say a thing when he entered, just gave him that look. "I was just trying something", Sam said. He didn't know what else to say, it was just the first thing that came to his lips. "Don't do it again", was all his father said in response, never ceasing the look he had been giving, before proceeding to the toilet. Sam quickly got out of the bathroom and headed straight to his room. His first thought was to get these clothes off straight away. Distraught by this encounter, he didn't dress for a while after that.
He tried to dress as neutral as he could at times, But did not want to be seen as too feminine as to avoid awkward situations. The feelings of being uncomfortable in himself never left him, they just kept getting much much stronger the more he ignored them. When he was 18 he went onto university, he felt here that he would now be able to let himself out a little more, now that he was away from his parents he could finally be himself more.
