I've been playing Soul Calibur IV on PS3 lately and I absolutely love it. It has a very deep character creator with hundreds of different items of clothing to choose from. It allows you to be very creative and make all kinds of cute female characters (male characters too - yes, I made a guy with pink armor).
The actual game mechanics are excellent also. You simply must try this game, it's like dressing up your Barbies and then making them fight!

What are some of your favorite games?

Resident Evil 4 is probably my favourite game because of it's astonishing depth for a shooter (unlike, say, Halo and Gears Of War. *yawn*).

I just bought Soul Calibur 4 too and, even though it's good, I'm not a fan of the character creation. I'm sure it's great at making girls look ever so pretty (but pretty boy male characters annoy me in games -- Cloud, Vincent, Reno, Sephiroth, Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Vaan, Soki, Raiden, Kilik, Yun-Seong, Jin Kazama, Hwoarang, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.) but it has even less depth than Soul Calibur 3. I'll be the first to admit that the lack of moves for the original fighting styles (Kick Edge, Lance, etc.) wasn't very good but Namco should've fleshed them out rather than abandon them. Now there's no originality with them. Even less thanks to the plethora of game-created custom characters and being able to fit the regular characters with custom items. Plus, with no Chronicles Of The Sword mode, there's nowhere to really focus on your custom characters, not to mention the special abilities tilt the scales far too much. It becomes less about skill and more about luck and unfair advantages (and my Astaroth looks like an idiot because of all the items I've had to throw on him to balance him out).

But that's going off-topic. As for other favourite games . . . for my money, despite dreadful characters, dialogue and story, the Final Fantasy games give more value because of its depth than anything else out there. Including films, comic books, television shows . . .

Either "Nights into Dreams" for the Sega Saturn, the original "Tomb Raider" (which staggered me in 1996, and which I still feel has a superior atmosphere), or the original "Phantasy Star", probably. Just watch me show my age here ...

If I were pressed to choose something more modern, then "Sims 2".

I enjoyed Soul Calibur 2 and 3 very much, and even though
I am still searching for the perfect fighting game,
the Dead or Alive series has come extremely close.

However at the end of the day, my favorite video game stands alone...
unmatched and victorious over everything I love about the industry.

And that is Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo.
It is the epitome of excellent level and creature design,
and is the only game where the ending made me cry.

I should mention some of my other favorites in addition to Soul Calibur IV.
Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero III and Civilization Revolution are pretty high on my list. I'm looking forward to Fable 2 and Mercenaries 2. The Dynasty Warriors series is also a guilty pleasure of mine - I know they get a bad rap but how many other games can you kill, like, a thousand dudes in 10 minutes?

Oblivion and Mass Effect are my faves. You can create quite feminine-looking characters, even if (especially in Mass Effect) they act just like 'men'

Mass Effect and BioShock have been favorites of mine for a while, and I still play WarCraft 3 every now and then. I recently discovered the Destroy All Humans games, and have had a real blast. But right now my favorite game is Spore. An amazing experement in gameplay. I've made/encountered some cute critters. Here are some of mine:

There is now a Tinkerbell game for the DS. I might try it and see if it's a worthy faerie game. I just started Shin Magumi Tensi: Devil Summoner, and I've really been enjoying it.
