Chapter 1: Becoming Homeless
Paul Paisley was 18 years old; he had short brown hair and blue eyes. He stood at 5ft 5in tall and he was of a slender frame. But he was not your typical 18-year-old boy. He was in the living room with his mother and father, who had him sat down on a single chair, while they sat on the 3-seater sofa. “You know why you are here don’t you?” Said Tom, Paul’s father, who was in his mid-40’s and Linda was in her early-50’s.
“No, why?” Asked Paul looking shocked, wandering what this meeting was for, that his parents had called. He did no real wrong as far as he was concerned. “Frankly my dear boy. Your mother and I are worried about you.” Said Tom, not sounding so happy. “Why?” Asked Paul in complete confusion. “You do not play sports at all; you do not have any male friends to go and hang out with. In fact, they all think that you are a complete and utter nerd. Furthermore, you do not have any girlfriends, because they simply think that you are a freak and a complete and utter weirdo.” Remarked Tom sounding very annoyed and angry with Paul.
“So?” Asked Paul, sounding really confused. Tom became even more angry at his son. “So! Is that all you have to say for yourself?” Fumed Tom at his son’s flippant remark. “I honestly can’t see what the problem is.” Remarked Paul with a smug look on his face. “That’s it. Get out.” Shouted Tom in anger. “Eh?” Replied Paul who seemed to be even more confused than ever. “Only horse eat hey. I said get out.” Remarked Tom in a very angry tone of voice. “What? You mean that you are kicking me out of the house?” Asked Paul in shocked alarm.
“Yes, I am kicking you out of the house.” Shouted Tom at his son. “What does my mum have to say about this?” Asked Paul. “I’m the boss of this family. What I say goes.” Shouted Tom even angrier than before. “Actually, I would like to say something, if I may?” Came Linda’s reply. “Sure honey, go right ahead.” Said Tom in a slightly calmer voice. “Son, you are a complete embarrassment to your father and me. I am in fact ashamed of you and I am also ashamed to be your mother. Your father is right to kick you out and I want you to leave home too.” Said Linda, not even shedding a tear.
“You too mum?” Asked Paul. But Linda did not answer instead, Tom did. “We are not your parents anymore. You do not get to call us mum and dad. You are a stranger in our house and for the last time. LEAVE!” Roared Tom in anger again, Paul simply burst out crying and then he walked out of the living room, out into the hallway and out through the front door, slamming it shut behind him. “Well, that figures, he cries like a girl.” Remarked Tom, not feeling bad about what had just happened. “He cried more like a baby if you ask me.” Said Linda, not sounding so happy about that. Tom just simply nodded his head.
