I was watching an ad on TV for catheters and I wondered if any DLs out there have ever tried one?  I wonder if prolonged use would un-potty train?

Never tried one, not sure I want to either. From what I've read a catheter basically causes a constant slow dribble as it were. When urine enters the bladder it exits pretty much immediately through the catheter. Now if what you're after is constant wetness great, if however you want that feeling of suddenly wetting and losing control not so great.

Also please be careful with anything like this you don't want to cause any damage, though obviously permanent incontinence could be considered a good thing for baby girls.

I have heard that using Catheters can be painful. Give me a diaper to wet instead. Hospitals use them after someone has surgery and is confined to bed.

Look around at this website:

http://www.dailydiapers.com/board/

An interesting fantasy "BUT" in real life a pain and a lot more if
precautions are not taken to maintain a medical sterile environment !
Long story short when you take in a liquid substance it flows down
the throat into the stomach and then thru the intestines and
accumulates in the bladder until the body signals to release this as
urine. So far things are pretty much sterile at this point. Now bypass
the urinary valving and allow for immediate drainage no matter how
much has accumulated in the bladder (better be wearing a diaper/
protection or standing sitting over a toilet) and the flood gates are
open 24/7/365 unless the catheter has a shut off valve which is the
case UNLESS intentionally disabled (the fantasy begins) !
To install the catheter tube it is pushed up the urinary piping of
the individual (male or female makes no difference at this point)
into the bladder. By doing this the bladder/urinary muscles are
bypassed/disabled and the flow of urine begins to seek it own level
gravity feed outside the body - only restricted by a small valve to
control the flow.
The PROBLEM here is sterility of the catheter in insertion to and
thru the bladder - Oh so much can go wrong here BIG TIME !
What I have been told is that catheters should be used only for a
short period of time under medical attention. Long term continuous
use creates problems maintaining a healthy sterile state.

So you want to create a baby like Incontinent state where there
is no control of your liquid body wastes - requirements are to wear
diapers or some sort of protection or have the drainage contained
in sack or container.
You certainly will not be able to just walk around without these
as you would be peeing at anytime without notice where ever you
are.
Catheters are predominately used in hospitals for bed bound
patients making it easier for the medical care staff to attend to the
needs of the patient.
They also are worn by ambulatory persons not patients who have
bladder problems (BUT) with the valving intact and control of when
and where pit stops are required.
For total incontinence the anus can also be disabled by drugs/surgical
devices and the flow of feces is uninhibited ! Thus the person at this
state regresses all the way back to being a baby with no body control.

Many stories and scenarios have been posed in these forums about
the fantasy of it all and for the most part it is just that a Fantasy.
In real life this not a comfortable thing to be encumbered with -
wearing diapers 24/7/365 or having a urinary sack attached at the
ankle to control the discharge.

Medically the use of a catheter is generally short term use with care !
While thinking is not prohibited - Be careful of what you think wish fantasize about in a real life scene !
It is not nice to fool around with learned potty procedures !

Its slightly painful the first few times. After that you cant even feel the catheter in you. I have been using catheters while diapered for about 4 years. You just have to make sure you only use the catheter once, and drink lots of fluids. Insertion kit can be very useful to help keep the catheter sterile. There are many post online on how to sterilize catheters, my advice is don't do it they are inexpensive and not worth the risk.

I also started with a 30 cc balloon and inflated it to 15 cc. I later found it much more comfy to wear a 5 cc balloon and inflate to 10. Yes you read that right over inflate the  the 5 cc balloon to 10 cc, i done a lot of research and that is standard practice.

I would also recommend starting with ether 14 fr or 16 fr. Also get a catheter plug to wear showering. Keeping an open cath in a diaper has some risk, that is why prior to catheterizing myself i take a shower. I also shower each and every time i have to go number 2. I will also drink cranberry juice while i am cathed to change the pH of urine to make is more unfavorable to bacteria, some say it helps some say it dont , i say it cant hurt.

Like I said there is slight pain the first few times catheterizing one self. after you take it out the urethra will be tender. Over a few usages it will get less and less.

The longest i have worn was 8 days straight, but from the research i have done it wont unpotty train you but will shrink the bladder over time if they are used permanently. Feel free to ask any questions, ill help if I can.

I appreciate all this advice.  I haven't done anything yet but I'm still intrigued by the idea.  It may well be the idea of inserting anything at all in my urethra is the exciting part here.  And scary.  Probably exciting 'cuz it IS scary.  Yes I know, sterile sterile and sterile!

My mummy tried one on me , its slightly uncomfortable to begin with but you get used to it, the only thing I couldn't get used to to was a constant wet nappy.
Mummy thought it was a great punishment  but after two weeks of wet terry nappies the rash was at a stage where we ad to stop.
Now she only does it occasionally but uses the threat of longer periods if I don't behave
