Plastic becomes stiff and brittle when it looses plasticizers. They wash out and evaporate from the plastic. I suppose you can use something like http://www.armorall.com/products/view_product.php?product_id=8&main_group=1&category_index=protectants That should work just fine but if the plastic is already crispy and cracking then there is not much you can do. Get a new pair and keep it wiped clean with armor all as a part of its regular care and they will last much longer.
